Jacob A. Smith:
REALTOR
EXPERIENCE
Jacob has been an agent since 2011 and has had his broker's license for 2017. He earned his GRI (Graduate REALTOR® Institute) in 2018. He's served on the SEMR Board of Directors since 2017 and on the Austin Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors since 2021. Jacob has bought over 70 properties (mostly single-family homes) since 2001 and has been personally involved in rehabbing each one of them.
He believes he is a very good advocate for his clients, as he really understands how homes function and how the systems in those houses interact together, drawn from his experience as a contractor and as someone who has bought so many properties. Additionally, he is a very empathetic person, which his probably why he was drawn to the psychology field in college. Empathy and understanding someone else's perspective is paramount when navigating real estate transactions.
ABOUT
Jacob was born and raised in the Austin and Blooming Prairie area. He's lived there his whole life (other than his four years of undergrad in Winona). He went to a private Christian school through seventh grade before graduating from Blooming Prairie High School, then graduating from Winona State University with a B.A. in Psychology. Jacob took two graduate courses before he decided he liked pounding nails more than studying!
Today, he continues to live in the area with his wife Cara, his son Sam, and his daughter Ella.
WHY REAL ESTATE?
A couple of reasons: the experience of the first house that he and his wife bought was a little unnerving, and secondly, he owned a construction company, and they bought a lot of flips, so it made financial sense to get his license.
FUN FACT
Jacob buys, fixes, and sells houses, so that takes up a lot of his "free" time. He also plays a lot of slow-pitch softball!
